Professional CV Writer – Gerard le Roux
‘Professional CV writer’ (or professional resume writer) was never my career goal. But it’s become what I do all day, every day. Because of 3 things:
- In a competitive, tough job market, getting a great CV is what job hunters feel is their priority. There’s no doubt, a good CV has bashed down many doors;
- It’s a good, practical way to engage with job hunters and genuinely help them make headway in the market. I have a passion for words, writing, speaking, personal marketing – as a professional CV writer, I get to do all of this every day;
- It’s my creative outlet – I don’t do ‘cookie cutter’. Every CV I write is a creative project.
So here I sit. In my converted horse-stable office in the Elgin Valley (80km outside of Cape Town) and town of Grabouw. On my chair for too many hours every day (although I play squash 4 or 5 times a week and do kettlebell exercises in my office – so if I’m ever a little out of breath when you call, you know why.)
I hate sitting all day. But I love to help job hunters.

Professional CV Drafter / Resume Writer
In 2002 I’d been working as a recruiter with large corporations as clients. But my real passion was to see my ‘candidates’, the job hunters, do better at marketing themselves out there. Being more proactive. Being smarter. ‘Cause they were making some really bad mistakes – and no-one! was telling them anything. All they were getting back from recruiters were lame things like,
“You’re overqualified” or,
“Sorry the position was filled internally” (after hearing nothing for 3 weeks after their interview.)
So I started a weekly e-mail advice column to give them some ‘guerrilla’ style ideas and strategies. I called it “Job Search Success”. It’s been around since 2002. And helping job hunters is now my full time occupation with WowCV.net.
My writing – on job search, CV writing and job search related topics – has been picked and I’ve appeared on local and national radio stations (Cape Talk, Radio 702, SAfm, Radio2000), in national and local newspapers (The Star, The Argus, Business Day, Financial Mail, Die Burger) and I’ve lectured MBA students at UCT GSB and opened careers weeks at leading universities.
“I was truly losing hope”
“I’d sent out 300 applications with not one call back. I was truly losing hope. I called in the services of Gerard! Wow is indeed his motto 👌🏻 With Gerard’s CV, I applied for 2 positions and immediately received 2 call backs in connection with Director / Executive level positions at large companies. I honestly can recommend him. He has a totally different approach, which I love – as he wants to help you – it is not a job to him, each CV is meticulously crafted. Are you in need of an excellent Job search coach CV writer….. Gerard le Roux is your answer.”

“polished and dynamic CV”
“The International resume you designed for me was just perfect. I had three interviews and two job offers within my first two months of arriving in the UK. Of course it is a different job market to South Africa but I was very grateful for such a polished and dynamic resume during a challenging time. I was surprised when I first saw my resume as it was so different to a traditional CV. I have since seen first-hand that the function of the resume is just to get the interview – and need not include what your Sunday School teacher thought about you 🙂
