Professional CV Writer – Gerard le Roux

Gerard le Roux - Professional CV Writing‘Professional CV writer’ (or professional resume writer) was never my career goal. But it’s become what I do all day, every day. Because of 3 things:

  1. In a competitive, tough job market, getting a great CV is what job hunters feel is their priority. There’s no doubt, a good CV has bashed down many doors;
  2. It’s a good, practical way to engage with job hunters and genuinely help them make headway in the market. I have a passion for words, writing, speaking, personal marketing – as a professional CV writer, I get to do all of this every day;
  3. It’s my creative outlet – I don’t do ‘cookie cutter’. Every CV I write is a creative project.

So here I sit. In my converted horse-stable office in the Elgin Valley (80km outside of Cape Town) and town of Grabouw. On my chair for too many hours every day (although I play squash 4 or 5 times a week and do kettlebell exercises in my office – so if I’m ever a little out of breath when you call, you know why.)

I hate sitting all day. But I love to help job hunters.

Professional CV Writer
-My Background

In 2002 I’d been working as a recruiter with large corporations as clients. But my real passion was to see my ‘candidates’, the job hunters, do better at marketing themselves out there. Being more proactive. Being smarter. ‘Cause they were making some really bad mistakes – and no-one! was telling them anything. All they were getting back from recruiters were lame things like,

“You’re overqualified” or,

“Sorry the position was filled internally” (after hearing nothing for 3 weeks after their interview.)

So I started a weekly e-mail advice column to give them some ‘guerrilla’ style ideas and strategies. I called it “Job Search Success”. It’s been around since 2002. And helping job hunters is now my full time occupation with WowCV.net.

My writing – on job search, CV writing and job search related topics – has been picked I’ve appeared on local and national radio stations (Cape Talk, Radio 702, SAfm, Radio2000), in national and local newspapers (The Star, The Argus, Business Day, Financial Mail, Die Burger) and I’ve lectured MBA students at UCT GSB, opened careers weeks at leading universities.

Professional CV Writer to
Clients on Every Continent*

Yeah, so, most hours of the day you’ll find me holed up in my office (although I do have views of the horse paddock outside my window, lots of trees and orchards and mountains in the distance – snow capped in Winter) helping my clients get better results in their job search. And I have clients on every continent (* except Antarctica!)

I’ve written a bunch of advice, both here on WowCV.Net but also over the years I’ve written some very useful guides.

Here are some examples:

  • My FREE e-Course: “12 Breakthrough Job Search Secrets”
    It’s a full education in what works and what doesn’t in the job market. There’s even homework. It’s intense, revealing and gives you some exercises to help get you back on track. I’ll be surprised if you’re applying even one of the secrets. Seriously. Your not applying one or more of these 12 secrets is the reason you may be battling in your job search right now. Without doubt.
    Get your free E-Course here: send an e-mail to 12jss [at] getresponse.net.
  • My Blog: this is where I give quick ideas, videos and other inspiration for your CV, CV writing, job search, job interviews, cover letters, etc. See it at www.wowcv.net/cv-tips-and-tricks
